All are welcome to help with stuffing backpacks full of donated school supplies and packing them up for shipping, in support of the Mexico Medical Mission: a longstanding ministry through which Saint Barnabas maintains a supportive relationship with several villages in Mexico.
We plan to fill at least 100 backpacks as part of this project, so we need your help! The filled backpacks will be blessed during our worship services on Sunday, August 6.
For more information, contact Sarah Petersen at 480-948-5560
]]>As part of a network of area churches, we partner with Family Promise and host families who are transitioning out of homelessness for a week at a time, 3-4 times per year, right here at Saint Barnabas. During that week, we provide lodging, all meals, and lots of fellowship and encouragement for Family Promise families and their children. Family Promise is one of only a few programs that work intentionally to keep families together as they experience homelessness, and their model has a 70% success rate.
You can help in lots of ways: plan and/or cook a meal, donate food, stay overnight as a contact in case any needs arise (we prepare you and give you separate sleeping quarters), bring an activity for children to do, play music or a movie to encourage rest and joy, donate travel sizes of toiletries that families can take with them, or simply be a friend to our guests. Serve and get to know families on their journey back to stability and homeFULLness.
Please contact Jane Gharibian or Tom Tischer at (480) 231-0782 for information.

Thank you for considering your gifts of any of these much needed items! These can be dropped off on Sunday in the boxes designated for the Mexico Medical Mission or to our church office during the week.

Sunday, May 7 | Both Services
United Thank Offering is a ministry of the Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. The blue boxes are used as a way to give thanks daily. On May 7, we will gather our boxes, bless them, and send them off to places near and far to reach those in need, including within our own diocese. Pick up another one to fill with your daily gratitude again! This is a meaningful practice for all ages and children are invited to participate. You can find out more about UTO’s global work at THIS LINK. Thank you!
UTO Prayer
Gracious God, source of all creation, all love, all true joy: accept, we pray, these outward signs of our profound and continuing thankfulness for all of life. Bless those who will benefit from these gifts through the outreach of the United Thank Offering, and keep each of us ever thankful for all the blessings of joy and challenges that come our way; through Him who is the greatest gift and blessing of all, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.

A 12-week training for Community of Hope lay chaplains begins in October 2022, and Saint Barnabas is welcoming applications.
Community of Hope (COH) is a pastoral care model based on Benedictine Spirituality. The program builds a community of caregivers who are united in prayer and worship and shaped by the common practices and ethos of the Rule of Benedict.
COH equips and deploys lay chaplains to meet the varied pastoral needs in the broader community: loss, grief, illness, aging, life transition, loneliness, to name a few.
The training modules are a rich time of exploration and team building and will be led by parishioners, clergy, and experts in the field. If you’ve been looking for a way to serve at Saint Barnabas, maybe Community of Hope is for you. Learn More about Community of Hope.

Mornings, August 14 – 19, 8:30am – 9am | Hutton Hall
A New Leaf’s East Valley Men’s Center is a safe haven for up to 110 men facing homelessness. Dedicated staff help residents establish a permanent housing plan and an onsite workforce helps the residents build a resume, find references, and secure job interviews. Through stable living, comprehensive services, and compassionate attention to the challenges each man faces, A New Leaf helps men experiencing homelessness.
Four weeks a year in the months of February, May, August, and November the Saint Barnabas community comes together to feed the residents of the East Valley Men’s Center by packing and delivering sack lunches on Sunday-Friday mornings. This is a great family activity offering a range of volunteering activities from sandwich making, packing lunches, writing inspirational lunch notes, providing group prayer, and delivering the bagged lunches to the facility in Mesa.
It’s a fast, easy way to make a difference in the lives of men who are working hard to get out of difficult situations. The sign-up link will be available two weeks before the event. We hope you’ll consider this life-changing mission work!
To learn how you can get involved, contact Jennifer Tefft, Mission Leader. Thank you!

Thank you!

]]>Sandwich Week is here again! This is a time where we spend a week of mornings making sandwiches and assembling bag lunches for men who are currently residing at the East Valley Men’s Center in Mesa, Arizona. Some 75 men live there at a time and are transitioning out of homelessness.
We gather in the Saint Barnabas kitchen for only about an hour and put together lunches that one of us then delivers to the center. You can serve by making sandwiches, bagging up veggies, chips, or cookies, putting each bag together, and more. It’s a fast, easy way to make a huge difference in the lives of men who are working hard to get out of a difficult situation.
Beginning Sunday, August 1, we will again be making lunches for the East Valley Men’s Center. Stations will be set up (socially distanced) in Hutton Hall. Please bring your mask (if you forget, one will be provided). We need volunteers from Sunday, August 1 through Saturday, August 7. Please email Deacon Susie Parker if you would like to help out!

]]>It’s that time of year again: our 2021 Pledge Drive is here! At every service this Sunday, we will be kicking off this year’s Pledge Drive together. Join us as we learn about our Pledge Drive, how it will work this year, and how you can participate. We will also be hearing a message from our Senior Warden, Jeff Bell, as he gives us an update on the state of the Saint Barnabas and welcomes us into the Pledge season.
Saint Barnabas cares about you and our community, and we are proud to be a church that welcomes all. We strive to be of service to all who need it and we are so happy to do so. None of this would be possible without people like you. It is with the enthusiastic support of all who attend Saint Barnabas that we are able to continue our mission. The Great Saint Barnabas Food Drive, Habitat for Humanity, Children and Youth Ministries, Music, and more: your financial support ensures that we can continue being of service in every way we can. With you, our presence is truly boundless.
Join us this Sunday, October 25 at one of our services for our Pledge Drive Kick-Off. Click here to sign up for an in-person service (reservation is required). And, as always, we will be live-streaming our 10:30 AM service, so we invite you to click here and join us for online worship.
We look forward to your continued support. All are welcome. All will be well.

Seek and serve Christ in all persons
Every summer, our youth and several adult volunteers embark on a six-day adventure to Los Angeles, CA “to seek and serve Christ in all persons.” Three days are spent in service at Alexandria House, a facility for women and children transitioning out of homelessness. Together we cook for residents, have a blast playing with kids, work on hands-on projects, and experience God’s love in a real community. There’s plenty of time for fun, friendship-building, discussing our experiences, and saying our prayers together. We also spend four evenings at The Midnight Mission experiencing first-hand what it means to proclaim God’s love as we serve dinner to over 500 homeless guests each night.
Your energy, participation, questions, experiences, and discussions in service make this mission trip extremely powerful. On our return, we share our experiences from the pulpit during Sunday worship services. Bring your friends and come ready for one of the best weeks of your year!
Grades: 9-12 (youth who have completed 8th grade in May 2020 through to youth who are graduating high school in May 2020)
After returning in July 2017, our youth shared their experience with the congregation on Sunday morning. Here is what they had to say:

]]>There are all sorts of things we take for granted every day. Imagine struggling every day just to acquire your essential needs. On Sunday, November 10, following the 10:15am service, all are welcome to help us put together emergency food packs for those in need. The packs will have assorted non-perishable food items that we will keep in our offices for when people come to the church for assistance during the business week. These bags will provide sustenance to get those in need through another couple of days as they work to make ends meet. Join us for the assembly day and always in prayer for those who are unemployed and underemployed in our community.

]]>Come one, come all to help assemble prayer packets for our military servicemen and -women! Express your thanks for the sacrifices they make and show gratitude for their service. Everyone is invited to stop in for a few minutes or the entire hour – every pair of hands helps. Adults and children are also invited to write messages of gratitude to be included in these wonderful packets. It’s an activity the whole family can enjoy! Let us know you’re coming! Please email Mary Lou Luvisa to learn more.
In 2005, Saint Barnabas received its first American flag from one of the children of our parish who had brought it to us from a war zone where he had served. Out of that meaningful moment came a ministry of service and support for our military personnel around the globe. Our book & gift shop manager, Tammy Underwood, felt inspired to reach out to these brave souls and started carrying military prayer books in the bookstore that people could buy to donate. Then she found some neck-coolers that we could purchase to donate as well. Tammy then connected us with a state-wide organization that sends monthly care packages to our troops and started taking the donated items to be included. Later, she started partnering with Tony Conyers, one of our parish artists, who made copper crosses and prayer cards to include in these care packages. To date, we’ve sent 25,000 crosses overseas! They started working with our Tuesday Morning Workshop ladies who started putting the crosses and cards together with little return note cards and envelopes. Thanks to Tammy Underwood’s vision that goes back to that very first flag 13 years ago, we have had a connection with our servicemen and -women of both prayer and encouragement that you can now see displayed around Hutton Hall in their notes back to us. And you can see and read these messages in the book and gift shop anytime! Tammy keeps all the return letters in a binder so we never forget the deep impact we are making by these simple but important actions. So we encourage you to take part in this special part of Saint Barnabas. And we give thanks that Tammy was so inspired 13 years ago that she led us all to this ministry. See you in Hutton Hall.

]]>Gentlemen: join other men of the parish in bringing some joy, exercise, and FUN to our children at youth by helping build a GaGa Ball Pit at Saint Barnabas! The workday starts at 7am with gathering and breaking into teams for the various jobs, and continues through the morning and day to finish the project. RSVP online at companyofmen.org/rsvp or email Dick Scott at slapshot14@gmail.com
GaGa Ball is believed to have originated in Israel, and has slowly spread across the USA over several decades. Ga means ‘hit’ or ‘touch’ in Hebrew. In the rules of GaGa Ball, the ball must touch the ground two times before it is considered ‘in play’, hence the name. GaGa Ball consists of a lightweight bouncy or foam ball and an octagon enclosure known as the GaGa Ball Pit. The object of the game is to hit the ball at or below opponents’ knees to eliminate them from the pit. The last one left in the pit is the winner.
